I am a linguist who teaches in the English Department at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
I teach a variety of linguistics courses: Structure of English; Language, Gender & Sexuality; Discourse, Culture & Power; and Introduction to Linguistics. I also teach composition courses for nonnative English speakers. Most recently, I have begun offering a course called Language and Comics, an eclectic blend of scholarship and comics. The course involves students in the examination of linguistic concepts like dialect and conversation while also introducing them to the fundamental components of comics. Most importantly, we read comic books, graphic novels, and comic strips and study them through a linguistic lens. For more on comics, you might take a look at a Word Press blog that I contribute to: Pencil Panel Page. |
